Trick question. True hipsters don’t care if they’re hipsters, and would likely deny that they are. Still, we can tell. They’re not fooling anybody. From their ironically out-of-date glasses to their beat up, “couldn’t care less” shoes, hipsters have permeated every urban bar and coffee house. The key to dressing like a hipster is to buck convention by wearing the unexpected. So then, why do so many hipsters look just alike? Is rebellion still rebellion if everyone begins doing it? Hmmm, therein lies the rub.Nevertheless, modern-day hipster fashion spans a wide range of looks. Skinny jeans are a staple item for both guys and girls, as are fitted hoodies. If the hoodies are emblazoned with the logo of a super underground band no one’s heard of, even better.
When hipsters dress up they do it in retro style. Guys don vintage plaid or colored tuxedo jackets with ruffled shirts. They mix colors and fabric with wild abandon. The young ladies wear vintage cocktail dresses from the ‘40s or ‘50s, which pair perfectly with their blunt bangs and ponytails.
Accessories are the life blood of a hipster. Glasses from the 1970s and ‘80s are huge, literally, and hipsters love them. They also love cowboy boots, hipster girls love flowers for their hair and the guys love porkpie hats. Above all, to be a true hipster, express yourself with your clothing and be a fashion leader who doesn’t care what others think.
