Fashion trends are known to recycle themselves over the years, so it may be no surprise when a particularly popular style from two decades ago pops up again, providing top designers some nostalgic inspiration for their newest collections. Just a few years back in the mid-2000s, some fashion styles of the 1980s came back with a vengeance, and suddenly everyone’s wearing leggings, ankle booties and long tunic tops again. Following that logic, it shouldn’t be too surprising that fashion trends from the 1990s are revisiting us in the 2010s,
Brilliantly inspired by designers at Saint Laurent, 2013 fall collection fashion models stomped their way down the catwalk in Paris last spring to show off grunge-style shirts and jackets that appeared to have been borrowed from a backstage tech crew member . Models in chopped-off versions of elegant evening gowns crafted in satin or tulle and transformed into mini-dresses gave us a jaw-dropping take on 1990s grunge fashion redux. Dresses were draped in oversized plaid flannel shirts (Kurt Cobain couldn’t have been prouder,) and just like that, the ‘90s are back – complete with with beloved Doc Martens-esque chunky-heeled boots for a fun and funky retro fall look.
