Naturally, the fall makes people think of going back to school and we begin to romanticize all of those collegiate, somewhat preppy clothes that have one thing in common: they are all designed with those classic patterns that we think of when we picture what we’d wear on the campus of an Ivy League school. Many designer have also embraced that same collegiate inspiration for this fall, it would seem, because classic patterns can be seen everywhere as a theme in fall clothing.
Victoria Beckham’s fall line for 2013 is one that has definitely embraced those classic patterns. After a few seasons in a row of patterns and pattern mixing that was louder than loud, a return to classic plaids, pinstripes and houndstooth seems downright dignified and bold in its simplicity. From trench coats to long pencil skirts to mini dresses, Beckham has put these subtle patterns in the forefront and has made them the stars of her subdued and somewhat mature collection. And the patterns are highlighted by the rich, deep blues, browns, greys and blacks that Beckham chose to place them upon. Don’t worry, though, ladies, there is still plenty of sex appeal in this line; a plunging neckline here, a clinging, curve-hugging skirt there all ensure that Victoria’s latest collection is still quite sexy while being classically appropriate for work…or college, of course.
