It never fails in the world of fashion – when a certain trend grabs ahold and takes over the industry for a while, there will inevitably be a fashion backlash at some point and a new trend will come along that is pretty much the polar opposite of the original look. I suppose you could call it fashion physics. Every fashion action has an equal and opposite fashion reaction. And the opposite fashion reaction to skinny pants is officially here. And its name is slouchy pants.
Slouchy pants are the far more forgiving sister of skinny pants. This isn’t exactly a brand new trend, think a WAY toned down version of the Hammer pants craze of the late 1980s and early ‘90s. And while these slouchy pants don’t have the crazy low crotch of Hammer pants (thank goodness), they do have the same roomy cut in the hips and legs, sit high on the waist, and then they pool with extra material around the calves before tapering at the bottom hem around the ankles. Designers such as Calvin Klein and Prabal Gurung have quickly embraced this trend by creating slouchy pants that are the height of fashion in the office or out on the town. They wear perfectly with a suit jacket for a business look, or can be dressed down with a sweater or a jean jacket and tee.
