This past year has been so hot for nail art trends and it seemed like the more intricate the tiny little nail paintings were, the better. That trend was bound to grow and expand, as all trends do, but the fingernail is only so big, how much more intricate could nail techs possibly get with their polka dots, stripes, plaids and any other kind of nail painting you can imagine? Well, you know how it goes with real estate, if there’s no more room to expand out, build up! And that well describes the hottest current trend in manicures – the textured nail.
Textured manicures have a base coat of gorgeous color, just like any other manicure, and then instead of simply adding a design with an ultra-fine brush and a different color of polish, the nail designer adds some texture to the nail with any number of objects. One trendy look is called Crunch Time by Tom Bachik, the designer who created it, and it consists of adding tiny pieces of crushed up colored shell to the nails. Nails with red polish and crushed red shell end up looking like they have pop rocks or some other rock-based candy stuck to the nails. You can cover just a bit of the nail in crushed shells, say on the tips, or cover all of the nail for a real candy nail look. Another similar trend uses bits of fabric flecks that look like metal shavings (but are obviously a lot safer.) The crushed pieces or flecks are added into small strip of clear polish over a dry polished nail so the pieces only stick where you want them to go. Play around with textured nails and find a look you love!
