When the great fashion minds of the world got together to hand down the current season’s trends from high atop Couture Mountain, they must have known that the people of the world would need some happy, pretty colors to see them through the brutal 2013/14 Winter season. Because never before has a springlike color been more appreciated the way pink is being adored during these cold winter months. A big “pink is the new black” trend was announced for the fall and winter seasons this year, and I’m so grateful that it was. Because now that we’re all freezing and have forgotten what the sun feels like, those soft pinks in our wardrobes can serve as beacons of hope for spring.
The current pink trend is a really fun one too, because it actually includes pretty much all shades of pink. From some skinny jeans done in hot pink by trendy designers like 7 For All Mankind, to a super soft pastel wool suit by Carven that allows us all to channel our inner Jackie Kennedy Onassis vibes, you really can’t go wrong with any shade of pink this winter. Designers who are known for creating really striking and elegant evening wear, such as Roksanda Ilincic, gave us gorgeous dresses done in such a delicate eggshell pink that you’d think it was a paint swatch for a nursery as opposed to a striking and sophisticated dress. The most curious thing about this trend is that these shades of pink are normally reserved for spring collections, and yet all of these designers delivered gorgeous pink pieces for fall/winter. They will certainly carry over, though, into the early days of spring. And they’ll happily remind us of warmer days to come.
